Hobe Sound is the southernmost village in Martin County and the bottom edge of our working territory, roughly 25 miles from Port St. Lucie by US-1. Its housing predates most of the Treasure Coast. Near Dixie Highway and Bridge Road, the lots hold concrete-block cottages and ranch houses built between the 1950s and the 1970s. Zeus Park and Hobe Heights carry the mid-century street grid. Along US-1 and Bridge Road sit the golf and gated communities dating from the 1980s through the 2000s: The Retreat, Eaglewood, Lost Lake and Heritage Ridge.

- Soil: coquina sand with shell. Water passes through it fast, and slabs on it settle.
- Air: salt, which corrodes unprotected reinforcing steel inside the slab.
- Trees: mature live oaks, pines and sea grapes, with roots running under drives and walks.

Permits, associations and the schedule
With no town government, Hobe Sound falls to Martin County for permits on driveway aprons and structural slabs. Heritage Ridge, Lost Lake, Eaglewood and The Retreat each run their own review of anything that shows from the street. We file both the county permit and the association submittal. The work is done by the crews that pour in Stuart and Palm City. Estimates are free and written, and since Hobe Sound is the last stop on the route, the start date you are given does not move.

What does salt air do to a driveway?
It attacks the steel before the surface. Plain rebar near the coast corrodes, expands and splits the slab from within. For a house about two miles or less from the water, the mix gets fiber, the rebar is epoxy-coated, and the finished surface is sealed.
Which office permits concrete work in Hobe Sound?
Martin County, because Hobe Sound is unincorporated. Two items need a permit: the driveway apron where it crosses the swale, and any slab tied into a structure. We file it.
Does my golf community have to approve a patio?
Usually. Most associations review work visible from the road or the golf course, and a few review every piece of hardscape. The review package is prepared together with your estimate.
My 1960s walk is exposed aggregate. Can a new section match it?
Yes. Exposed aggregate is still a standard finish, and the stone size and color can be matched closely. Send a photo, or we look at it during the site visit.
Is 25 miles too far for you?
