Concrete in Fort Pierce

Concrete work for Fort Pierce and the north county

Older CBS homes with 1960s driveways, the big unincorporated neighborhoods out Kings Highway, and salt air off the inlet — Fort Pierce concrete has its own rules, and we work there every week.

Older Florida driveway cracked and sunken where sandy base washed out beside a swale

Fort Pierce is the older half of St. Lucie County. The neighborhoods south of downtown and along Indian River Drive have 1950s and 60s concrete-block homes whose original driveways and walks are cracked, sunk and two inches too narrow for a modern truck; the Lakewood Park, Indian River Estates, White City and Kings Highway areas are unincorporated county with larger lots, boats and RVs, and a lot of shed, pad and second-driveway work; and everything east of US-1 lives in salt air that spalls concrete faster than anywhere else on the Treasure Coast. Fort Pierce also drains through swales in most of the county areas, so culvert and apron work comes up on nearly every driveway.

Permitting is split: the City of Fort Pierce handles its own building and right-of-way permits inside the city, and St. Lucie County handles the unincorporated neighborhoods, each with its own driveway detail. We pull both. Price-wise Fort Pierce runs a little below Port St. Lucie on simple flatwork and a little above on the old-house replacements, because there's usually more demolition and a tree root or two to deal with.

Questions from Fort Pierce homeowners

Do I need a permit for a driveway in Fort Pierce?

Inside the city, a driveway replacement needs a City of Fort Pierce permit and, if it touches the street, a right-of-way permit. In unincorporated Lakewood Park, White City and Indian River Estates, St. Lucie County issues the permit with its own driveway and culvert detail. We pull whichever applies.

How much does a concrete driveway cost in Fort Pierce?

$7.50 to $11.50 per square foot for a reinforced broom-finished driveway, so $4,500 to $7,500 for a typical two-car drive, plus demolition of the old slab ($3 to $5 a square foot) and a culvert crossing where the county requires one.

Why does concrete spall so badly near the inlet?

Salt in the air and, on older pours, in the sand. Salt gets to the steel, the steel rusts and expands, and the surface pops off. We use air-entrained concrete, coated or fiber reinforcement and a sealer on anything east of US-1.

How far into the county do you go?

All of Fort Pierce and the unincorporated north county — Lakewood Park to the Indian River County line, White City, Indian River Estates and out Okeechobee Road.
