The builder gave you a 10-by-12 lanai slab. We extend it, pour the pad for the summer kitchen or the hot tub, or lay the slab for the screen room — thick enough for the sand, sloped away from the house, and tied in so it doesn't crack at the seam.
Almost every Port St. Lucie house from the 1980s on came with a covered lanai and a slab that stops exactly where the roof does. The first thing most owners do is push it out: a patio for the grill, a pad for the hot tub, room for a screen enclosure, a base for a summer kitchen. It's a small pour, and it's the one that goes wrong most often — poured thin, poured flat or sloped toward the house, and not tied to the existing slab, so it drops half an inch at the seam within two summers.
We pour it like it matters: base compacted, four inches with a thickened edge, fiber mix with steel, doweled or isolation-jointed to the existing slab depending on what's under it, a quarter-inch-per-foot fall away from the house, and a finish that matches the lanai — broom, salt or knockdown. Thickened footings under kitchen islands and future screen-room posts. Where the extension will sit under a new enclosure, we pour to the enclosure contractor's layout and pull the permit with them.

How much does a lanai extension cost in Port St. Lucie?

Do I need a permit for a patio in Port St. Lucie?
A plain uncovered patio extension that doesn't change drainage usually doesn't. A slab for a screen enclosure, a covered patio, a summer kitchen with gas or electric, or anything that changes the lot's drainage does, and we pull it. Every HOA community in the city wants a modification request regardless; we give you the drawing.
Will the new slab match my old lanai?
The finish will; the color will be a shade darker for the first year while it cures. A saw-cut joint at the seam makes the change look intentional. If matching matters, a knockdown overlay across both makes them identical.
Can you pour against the house?
Yes, with an isolation joint and the slab set below the stucco weep line so water can't get into the wall. We never pour up against the block.
How soon can I put the hot tub on it?
Furniture after three days, the tub after fourteen, filled at 28. Concrete keeps gaining strength for a month.
